Hannah's House Part 1 - The Living Room

This past weekend, I visited my daughter Hannah in her new house. She moved in April, and I visited Easter weekend.

We got most of the living room finished in April, and this past weekend, we pretty much completed it.

Please forgive the bad photos - I didn't even THINK about taking a tripod. I whipped off photos this morning, and didn't play with lighting at all - lamps were on, blinds were open. Otherwise, the rooms can be a bit dark.

She lives in a 1920's house, with nice wood floors, French windows, and interesting "extras" 1920's homes have. Notice the ceilings...

The walls are painted a nice light gray, and the trim is the original wood. The rooms in this home are nice and big! This is what you see when you walk in the front door and look to the right.

The sofa was one of her first purchases. She put casters on the old trunk, which was another early April purchase.

Looking at the photo above - other than the sofa, pillows, lamp shades, and angel wings...everything else was found at thrift stores, garage sales, antique stores, etc.

Even the milagro cross was a happy find for a good price.

Here is her desk/end table/thing. She had to do a little carpentry to get it right, and tweak the finish, but it is a wonderful rustic piece.  The chair is a really good piece, too.

I'm pretty sure it was from the 1970's - solid wood, HEAVY, real leather and brass tacks. It's made in the Gothic style.

There are two - one has arms. We considered painting them and trying to achieve the Restoration Hardware weathered wood look, but decided they are fine as they are for a while.

The desk top has an eclectic array of things on top - a 1960's lamp in the original finish, with a new shade we just found at Big Lots over the weekend.

It had gray, cream, taupe and mustard, which we thought would look good. We loved them, and bought two, since they were about ten bucks each.

The frames are waiting photos, which may be sepia. The book ends are chalk ware, and have been painted many colors. Vintage books were thrifted, and part of her junky birthday present this year.

The larger silver candlestick is from a used furniture store, and the smaller one from a garage sale we went to yesterday...and I have will some lovely things to show you later! I gave some things to Hannah, and kept some for me.

To the left of the sofa is the front door. If you look straight ahead when you walk in, you see the bench I brought from my house, and vignette in the corner. (The bench looks so much better at Hannah's house!)

This chair was a garage sale find this past weekend - and Hannah said it's the best deal she's ever found at a garage sale! It cost $20, and it still had a tag on it from Kirklands - almost $400. It was missing a back cushion in linen - like the seat cushion. No worries - one of her sofa cushions worked even better.

Above the chair is a metal art piece I found years ago in a consignment shop, and a recent piece Hannah found at a thrift store.

It works perfectly in her room! I think it is a signed and numbered lithograph...and I'm sure she didn't pay much for it.

Next to the new chair is the typewriter table she found last spring when we went looking at antique and consignment stores here in Amarillo.

The lamp is one of her birthday presents, as are the books and brass coasters.

The lamp shade is one Hannah purchased at Target - lovely linen - for $20. A silver dish of chocolates and a seashell complete the vignette.

I love the vintage industrial feel of the typewriter table...

To the right of the typewriter table is the fireplace, which is directly across from the sofa.

To the right of the fireplace is a silver metal trunk on casters, one of her April finds. I think she found the two trunks in the room the same week! Funny how that works.

The trunk holds DVD's. To the right of the trunk is the other Gothic 1970's armchair.

I styled an asymmetrical gallery wall of empty gold frames.

The pillow is a new Hannah purchase - a couple of years old. That's new to me - probably not to Hannah. :) She didn't know it would work in her future living room when she bought it.

Beyond this, you can see the dining room. We will see it in better detail next time.

The pieces we have pulled together were never intended to work together, but they somehow do - thanks to a little stain and paint here and there, and a mostly neutral palette. So far, it has a very eclectic, somewhat elegant, sophisticated feel and it didn't break the bank to furnish it.

I'm so happy to be able to help Hannah make her home fit her style!

Love it all Revi ... you and Hannah did amazing displays with things found at the Thrifts and I love that trunk coffee table. It looks ages old. Not many young ladies Hannah's age would care for that kind of stuff. Be proud.
Thanks for sharing and anxious to see more.
