Thrift Store Mystery Solved!

Last Friday, I stopped by Goodwill after work. I found several cool things, and a couple of them weren't priced. This is one that didn't have a price on it.

Normally, NO PRICE is the kiss of death. No price, no sale.
I had no idea what this thing was, but I loved the look of it.

It was well made, with dovetailed corners. It had the "vintage industrial" look I'm so attracted to lately! I lusted for it.

I decided to go for broke and see if they'd sell it to me.
Score! I ended up getting it for a buck.

A little Google detective work, and I found out how it actually was used! Look at this 1911 ad I found via Period Paper on Amazon.

Of course, I thought it might look better painted white.

I saw a few of them listed on Ebay and Etsy for about $14.
I guess I paid twice what this one would have cost in 1911.

I won't sell it. This was state of the art in 1911! I love having a little piece of industrial history. Plus, it will fit in quite nicely with my Pressure Cooker!

Word for the Day:

Job 33:14-16

14 For God speaks in one way,
and in two, though man does not perceive it.
15 15 In a dream, in a vision of the night,
when deep sleep falls on men,
while they slumber on their beds,
16 16 then he opens the ears of men
    and terrifies them with warnings,

that is so neat! where do you even start to look on the internet for something like that?

How in the world did you even know what to search for?
It really is a cool piece of history!

Love it, love it! I thought it was cool before, but now that I see the whole thing, I really love it and you painted it and it got even better. So it's just a little thingy that they use to shorten the bed for display? How in the world did there happen to be an ad for that? That ad's a find in and of itself. Cool stuff. Glad you are saving it.

Wowza Revi, What a great buy (steal of a deal) I've never seen them but it was nice reading the history and what they are. I wouldn't have been able to pass it up either. Aren't you glad you asked the price. Normally unmarked items are "the kiss of death" for me too. This might just make me ask more often.

I just love, love, love finds like this! I also love that you took the time to look it up & share it with all of us. Sometimes I feel like the oddball getting so excited over old things & wondering how they were used, where they came from etc. so it's nice to know there are others out there. Lol. The paint job you gave it is perfect & really makes it stand out. Enjoy your new treasure!
