Vignettes to Go...

Vignette - (vin-yet) - any small endearing scene, view, picture, etc.

This word is used to describe
a number of concepts, and the one
I wrote above is number 4 or 5 in the list.

This definition came closest to
my personal understanding
and use of the word.

It is usually a complete, small grouping
of items within a definite frame or border.

I love composing vignettes. But I haven't done
very many of them on this blog.

Which surprised me. I thought I had done more.

Sometimes, I tend to make things a little busy...

and other times I really love them.

There is really only ONE PROBLEM.

I have too much stuff.
Especially the kind you use
in interesting little vignettes
that might go on a tabletop
or on a bookcase.

And I can't use it all.
None of it is "valuable" enough
to sell at the consignment store.

But it is very cool stuff,
so I've been hoarding it.

There. I finally admitted it.
I'm not just a demi-hoarder.
I'm a full-blown hoarder
of very cool stuff.

And while it IS very cool,
I don't want it to force me
to make paths through my house
or to sleep somewhere
else other than my bed.

So I had a thought...

I am going to turn my problem
into an asset. I plan to make little
vignettes of 3, 5 or 7 items
and sell the whole kit and caboodle
on this blog, or on Etsy.

Beginning tomorrow, I will
make vignettes of selected items.
(I've spent the day gathering
them from here and there.)

I will photograph them
and pack them for shipping.

Then, I will post my new items
on this blog, and possibly on Etsy.

I'll try to have ballpark postage
calculated. And I'll make sure there
are dimensions so you will know
what might work in your homes.

It's a simple idea.
I don't know why I haven't
thought of it before.

It will be a good way to
get cool things into the hands
of people who appreciate them.

I can practice my design skills,
using Gestalt and Color Theory.

And for one price, someone will
receive a group of cool items
that work together, with the photo
of how they might be arranged
as a vignette.

(Of course, the items may be used
any way the buyer would like to use them.)

The vignettes will be composed of
vintage, upcycled, ethnic
and handmade items,

including:

small art pieces, candlesticks, empty vintage frames,
baskets, pottery, wood boxes, vintage book bundles, industrial elements, seashells, etc.

And I'm excited to get started!

I remembered this verse
that Pat posted a while back,
and I hope it came to my mind
for a very good reason...

Word for the Day:
You shall remember the Lord your God,
for it is he who gives you power to get wealth,
that he may confirm his covenant that he
swore to your fathers, as it is this day.

That's brilliant! With your good taste and sense of design I'm sure you will do well. Looking forward to seeing what you come up with!

Great idea! It gives you a chance to decorate and create neat vignettes, lets you have fun with the pieces you've thrifted, gives someone else (who may not have the time, skill or access to things)some great decorating options, and will keep your house from being overly cluttered.
