Industrial-Elegant Vignette

Here's another peek at my living room-in-progress -
a little vignette of Industrial-Elegant-Cottage style.

This is area just to the right of the front door as you walk inside.

The "mail drop" is located here.

I collect the mail in a primitive tray.

This is the reason my front door looks like this:

and my front window has a cracked pane.

The evil post man is going to invade our home!
Or so this girl thinks...

Now I ask you, does this look like the face
of a sofa-eater? Sweet and innocent, she is.

Anyway, I am going for a very eclectic feel.
I want elegance, industrial and cottage
all mixed together without looking insane!

Elegant:

A French-style mirror, painted whiteish.

A couple of gilded mirrors.

A bronze metal medallion
mounted on wood, painted gray
and hung inside an empty gilded frame.

A lovely French lady in a fancy gilded frame...

Cottage:

A very chippy off-white frame, with the wire still attached.
Vintage books, a gilded bird nest and twig...

A vintage English chest of drawers
with bronze knobs...I painted it flat white...

and a white primitive tray.

Industrial:

A vintage metal file cabinet...

A vintage metal house number...

...and a bronze candlestick.
An unlikely grouping of items
all put together to achieve
an interesting and cohesive mix.

Inch by inch progress. Thanks for
being here to celebrate each inch with me!

Word of the Day:

Philippians 1:24-26
New King James Version (NKJV)

24 Nevertheless to remain in the flesh
is more needful for you.
25 And being confident of this,
I know that I shall remain and
continue with you all
for your progress and joy of faith,
26 that your rejoicing for me
may be more abundant in Jesus Christ
by my coming to you again.

What's Your Number?

Uh oh. My number is up.
Only I can't decide which one it is.
7 is a favorite - it is a special number to God.

I've found several of these little charmers recently.
Most are from one particular store - my fave.
I like it because it is cheap!

I do have a project in mind, so I'm still collecting them
where ever I find them. As long as they're cheap.

Which is sometimes hard to tell...

Just look at that array of price numbers!
I did not pay 5c.

Nor did I pay $1 for all.
Doesn't it just get you?

When you find something you like
and it still has a cheaper garage sale price on it?

And you are getting ready to pay more at the thrift store?

The least they could do would be to get rid of the evidence.

See, I still think this is a good price...

But I would like it even better if I hadn't seen the .5c price.

Word for the Day:

Matthew 13:45-6
The Parable of the Pearl of Great Price

 “Again, the kingdom of heaven
is like a merchant seeking beautiful pearls,
who, when he had found one pearl of great price,
went and sold all that he had and bought it.

May you always know the value of
a treasure when you find it!

A Three Dollar Day

Yesterday morning on my way to work, I saw a sign.
No, not one of THOSE signs, a Garage Sale sign.

So, I decided to circle the block and visit it.
After all, I need more stuff. Especially the
kind of stuff you find at Garage Sales.

It was not a huge sale, but there were some nice things.
As I drove up, a lady was loading a nice little table.
I imagined it was cheap, and wished I had arrived a bit sooner.

So, all I ended up with was this little white thingy:

It had a white candle inside and a .75c sticker on it.

By the end of the day, after work, the candle looked like this:

I haven't cleaned it yet. See:

And I couldn't pass this up for a quarter:

Of course, I'll paint it white.

I would've sprayed a bunch of things today,
but it is very windy - not good for spray painting.

So, off to work I went - Hi Ho, Hi Ho!

After work, I had plans to go bowling.
Yes BOWLING.
My cousin was here from Dallas, and my
aunt thought it would be fun to go out
for burgers and bowling.

I've bowled 3 times in my life.
Suffice it to say I am not good.
Let's leave it at that.
But I'm usually up for something new!

On the way, to my aunt's house,
I stopped by the new thrift store near my work.
I bought this for two bucks:

See the little green sticker?

It's a wee bit shabby and rickety.
I guess I like things like that.
It had at one time been hung by this cord:

But it apparently failed.

Good thing the little mirror didn't break!
It has a certain amount of charm,
like the way the glass is cut to follow the shape,

And some "character" that made the guy
who sold it to me apologize.

I told him it didn't bother me.

I didn't tell him I liked it that way.
It does have one fairly major flaw, though:

I wonder how it happened?
At first I thought I'd just paint it white
and call it "character."

But, I'm kinda liking the dark wood for my living room...

Three things. All in all, not a bad $3 day!

Word for the Day:

Matthew 18:20
For where two or three come together
in my name, there am I with them.”

May you ALWAYS know He is always with you.
