First Attempt at a Topiary

After being inspired by the amazing Diane of
the fabulous In My Own Style blog,
I decided to try to make a natural looking
faux topiary I could not kill.

I went to Hobby Lobby and purchased the
most natural looking wispy foliage I could find
in the form of a garland. It looks pretty real...
and it was on sale for half price! It was about 7.50.

I had a pot, formerly yellow and now painted white.
It already has floral foam in it. All I need  to do is add moss.

I got a stick from my yard.

And I looked at Diane's instructions again.

Unfortunately, my greenery was not going to work
using her methods, So I tried cutting my garland
and wiring it together to make a round form.

No Soap.

At last, I resorted to the green styrofoam craft ball method.

I had some 4" round ones I thought I might use for something!
I cut my greenery into small pieces and stuck them into the ball.

That's pretty much topiary crafting for idiots, which I'll admit I am
when it comes to creating lovely floral creations.

And my creation doesn't have the correct proportions...
it's too large for the pot I have for it. So what am I to do?

Well, I'm going to find some smaller green styro balls,
and cover them with moss, and poke those babies in again!

All in all, I consider this project a success,
even though I'll rework it a second time.

Thanks, Diane, for the inspiration!

This project cost under $10.
Similar topiary pots go for much more!

And a little green here and there adds
life to a room, even if it's not real.

On second thought, maybe I just need
a longer stick? I'll show you the final project later.

Word for the Day:

Revelation 9:4
They were told not to harm the grass of

the earth or any green plant or any tree,
but only those people who do not
have the seal of God on their foreheads.

I was thinking maybe you were going to trim it with scissors. Did you try that? It's a great idea. Can't wait to see your final project.

I think it looks good. If its too "perfect" then it looks fake.

I think it looks awesome! I have three (make that two due to clumsy husband) topiaries (sp?) that I got on clearance ages ago a TJ Maxx. I love love love them. I may now be so inclined to try my hand at making my own!

I like this! To me it just looks like a less dense plant than the typical boxwood topiaries. I think it looks very natural and less formal!
