Industrial Living Room Vignette #5 - The Early Fall Mantel

Maybe I should have named this post "Mantel #1," since I usually tweak them...at least once.

I used many items I used last fall...but a few items are new-to-me.

The tall white glove mold is a new purchase from Etsy. I have wanted one for years, and finally decided to get one. I purchased it from Reinvented Charlotte. They shipped quickly, and paid postage! Woo Hoo!

The gray glove mold was purchased locally, for a good price, several years ago.

Most of the other items, you have seen at one time or another. The bronze mercury glass finials are new-ish...maybe two years old. I bought them on clearance at a local furniture store. I think they were about $7 each.

White styro pumpkins are from Dollar Tree a few years back. I painted them with white flat house paint. The gray planters are a fairly recent thrift store find...from this summer.

My favorite iron bird was a gift from June a few years back. I put them away to use in the fall. The other items are from thrift stores and garage sales.

This mantel is pretty filled and tight...this room is pretty much going in that direction. I didn't plan it, but I am having a difficult time editing it down to a simpler space.

I revised the books in the fire box. They're all black now, though they look blue in this photo. The finials are back...though in a different configuration.

As I was placing the birds and hands on the mantel, the old saying, "A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush..." kept running through my head. Click HERE for a tidbit of interesting history.

Seven Things I Wish I Could Find at a Thrift Store...

We all have a list of things...once in a blue moon we find them...often not.

#19/103 Tall Cast Iron Urn

A vintage cast iron urn
...and I'd be willing to pay $20. :) Let me know if you find one.

great display of vintage clocks

Vintage clocks
I never find them here. Don't people care what time it is in Texas?

Vintage trophies
I did find ONE sterling silver lamp trophy...very, very cool. Now, it needs friends.
Should I un-lamp it?

An industrial chair
This is a wish list. I can wish. Actually, as long as I am wishing, 3 would be great.

Vintage Enamel Signage
Pull...Push...Girls...I can think of any number of signs I might like.

A card catalog
Don't ask what I might do with it because I don't have a plan. I just know I would love to have one.

A vintage typewriter
Again, this is not a practical item. I won't use it for typing. I just want one. It would look great on my desk right now...

So, there are plenty things I think I need. I wish I had them. Bottom line, I have waaaaay more stuff than I need. I need to get rid of it. I desire a simpler, less cluttered life. Living in the same house for 12 years has not helped me cull through things on a regular basis.

I am thankful for my blessings. I need to let go of some of them...maybe some I don't love as much anymore. Maybe to make room for some of the other items I really would love.

Word for the Day:
Colossians 3:15
And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful.

Thrifty Life Thursday #38 with Features from Last Week

A few weeks ago, I found out from Linda at Itsy Bits and Pieces that I had won a canvas with the photo of my choice from easycanvasprints.com!

It was hard to decide what sort of image I wanted to print...but I did a little online research and decided that this image would work well in my living room revision.

It is a study of bird wings by Leonardo da Vinci. I look forward to using it with some thrift store finds in a grouping above my "Gustavian" desk. I hope to show you this weekend.

Thank you, Linda, and easycanvasprints.com! I love my canvas print.

Thank you to all the link-partiers this week! I love to see your treasures, and must fight the urge to run to the nearest thrift store.

Features from last week include...

Brooke from Creative Country Mom shared a creative use of a vintage zinc scoop - a planter for a cactus! She has other great ideas, too. Check her out!

Meg from My Vintage Life shared a new wall of lovely white shelving, which just so happens to be filled with amazing vintage finds. I love the way she displayed her vintage books...by color.

Tuula from The Thrifty Rebel found the pretty shelf above, and a number of other things, thrifting a couple of hours per week at lunch time. Love the design on that shelf!

Have a thrifty week!

that may have previous experience or lived a former life elsewhere.

Please share items that are second-hand or are composed of second-hand materials.

Types of Posts to Share:
    • Home decor, furniture, collectibles, garden items and even wearables are welcome, as long as they have a second-hand element.
    • Please, no food items, new pieces from "real" stores, or crafts, unless made with upcycled, thrifty finds.
    • Hand-me-downs and curbside finds are welcome, as are items found in thrift stores, garage sales, antique shops, flea markets and other interesting places.
    • Treasures may be listed as you found them, or with your updates, tweaks, and re-purposes; befores and afters are both welcome.
    • Items need not be "vintage" but must be pre-owned or second hand.
    • Posts including Etsy and other shop links are welcome! For visitor enjoyment, please link to your blog post, not directly to your Etsy shop.
    Etiquette:
      • Though it is not a requirement, it would be lovely if you would follow Revisionary Life  via Blogger, Bloglovin' or subscribe via email. Links are located in my sidebar to the right.

      Word for the Day:
      Hebrews 10:24-25
      24
And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works,
25 not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some,
but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see
      the Day drawing near.
