Jane Jetson's Chair

Meet my first chair for the consignment store.

I actually bought her several years ago,
because she has a really cool shape.

Her shape has lines reminiscent
of a 1959 Plymouth Fury.

Just like Mom and Dad used to drive.

She's just what you might expect of a chair
found in Jane Jetson's house - Jane's desk chair.
(Jane probably blogs there.)

Only yesterday, this girl was suffering
some serious mid-life crisis blues.
(I know I should have taken before photos...
but, sadly I did not. You'll just have to trust me.)

Her frame was a golden maple color, and it was
a tad beat up with patches of hardened tape residue
here and there - it had lost it's sticky decades ago.
Some sanding and elbow grease took care of those.

I whipped out the new can of spray paint and
started spraying before I knew what hit me.

I noticed she had a couple of deep scratches.
Sanding was not enough to take care of those,
so I filled them, and sanded some more.
THEN I remembered to take some photos.

I filled scratches with this:

Her seat covering looked like this:

Not your typical upholstery fabric choice for
a mid-century mod chair, eh? I thought so, too.
It was probably some feeble attempt
to bring her into the 1990s.

On top of that, she had ZERO padding. Ouch.
(Most of us mid-century gals have seat padding to spare!)

When I removed her seat, I noticed
she's joined together with large pegs. Interesting.

When I decided to paint her,
I imagined her in bright turquoise or orange, with
a funky retro-inspired print seat.

I actually bought those colors
of spray paint at Home Depot.

But I didn't use them.

WHY?

Because I remembered the super-cool vinyl
I bought at Julie's garage sale.

Instead of going super bright,
I decided on neutral.

I gave the old girl a couple of coats of
Krylon's Champagne Nouveau
It matched the vinyl perfectly.

Next, I added a couple of layers
of batting to her seat for comfort.

And she looks pretty nifty...just like I knew she could.

Today, she is a fine example of a lovely lady.
You may know someone just like her.
She's getting along in years, but she still has style.

She's a little quirky, a little elegant,
and more modest or understated than some-
even bathed in muted gold.
But she's comfortable with that.
It suits her just fine. She knows who she is.

Word for the Day:
I Timothy 2:8-10
I desire then that in every place the men should pray, lifting holy hands without anger or quarreling; likewise also that women should adorn themselves in respectable apparel, with modesty and self-control, not with braided hair and gold or pearls or costly attire, 10  but with what is proper for women who profess godliness—with good works.

Good comparison with the car. She looks so much better than she did for the 90's :) Thank you for linking this up to Rustic Restorations Weekend!
