Fall Mantel - Take One

Fall has arrived, and we've had some hints of it, but basically it still feels like summer here in Texas.

Still, since fall is my very favorite season, I don't want to waste a minute of it, even if it's only pretend fall around here!

Since I went predominately white for spring and summer, I decided fall is the best time to bring back out some of my favorite rusty things! Oh, sweet rust, how I have missed you!

Some fake pumpkins I found in a grab bag for a dollar were painted greige-white. They're perched atop some Spanish moss, sitting on some rusty thingamajigs I found last year. Whatever they are, they make pretty nice pedestals.

I tossed in some rusty lanterns from a garage sale last summer and some deconstructed books. The only things purchased new/retail include a package of moss balls from Hobby Lobby and some bronze mercury glass finials I found last fall at a local furniture store for 75 percent off. If I remember correctly, they cost about $7 each.

The vintage clock is a piece I've had for decades. It was purchased at Purple Heart in Houston around 30 years ago. (It is set for 11:11.) In front of it is an antler - just because.

I chose another symmetrical layout again. The pieces I wanted to use just worked out that way. More moss balls, in chartreuse, sit atop a pair of bronze candlesticks. I made them last year.

Until I find the bin with my fall things from last year, these are the only two pumpkins in the house!

(That's the only down side of having your grown-up kids help you with a garage sale. All the "keep" stuff got crammed into the back garage without much order to it.)

I am re-working the shelves on either side of the mantel for fall, too. Time for a change! I plan to use more grays, bronze, rust, and camel this fall, and put away some of the whites.

Actually, the whole room will have a lot of new vignettes! I'll try to show you those this weekend.

Word for the Day:
James 5:2-3
2 Your riches are corrupted, and your garments are motheaten.
Your gold and silver is cankered; and the rust of them shall be a witness against you, and shall eat your flesh as it were fire. Ye have heaped treasure together for the last days.

Note: This word is for ME, and anyone out there who is struggling with too much junk! Even the good old rusty kind.
Lord, help me know what to keep and what to get rid of!

Love the mantel look, but those books in the fireplace near gave me a heart attack! I keep imagining a match landing in it and poof, precious books all gone. Reminds me too much of Farenheit 151, and that freaks me out!
