I LOVE this big white artichoke.
I scored it at Julie's big garage sale.
(Julie does garage sales to sponsor
her mission trips. Friends give her
items, and this was one of them.)
This artichoke is inspiring me to
paint my adjoining dining room and
tweak it to fit my living room's evolving
industrial elegant cottage style.
Click HERE to see my living room,
still a work in progress. It has
changed since this post, too.
It also reminds me of a design
project I did in college.
The assignment was to draw
in black and white, an object,
and use typography in a style that
communicated the emotional
feeling of our image.
The typography was to be in color.
That was back in the days before
computer graphics. We HAND lettered
things or used Letraset press on type, which was black.
This project was painstakingly hand-lettered.
By the end of my "artichoke" project,
all I could see was ART I CHOKE.
I thought it was pretty funny back then.
I guess you had to be there...
I found another antler. I don't know why this one is notched.
This gold leafed frame
reveals bits the red undercoat,
traditionally done to make gold leafing
have greater warmth and depth.
I love the gilding on this piece,
so I won't be painting it white.
I will, however change the image
inside the frame. It will be contemporary. I love mixing
contemporary and traditional. Check back to see...
I love the shape of this bronze candlestick,
as well as the price.
I was a bit surprised to see it is
from Pottery Barn. We do not have one locally.
I think it works well with my other
thrifted bronze candlestick.
Last but not least, is this adorable
fake topiary. I've been attempting
to make one. Click HERE to see my first attempt.
I saw this at the thrift store and got excited!
That was until I picked it up and
saw this...
Bummer. But...I have pots
that just might work.
So, I took it up to the register
along with my basket of other goodies
and asked if they might do a little
better on the price.
Since I am a regular, the
girl was really nice and said,
"Just take it. I can't sell it anyway."
I thanked her kindly.
The pot is not as cute
as the topiary anyway.
Check back to see it in
a new pot next week!
Gotta LOVE a FREE topiary!
Word for the Day:
Romans 6:23
For the wages of sin is death,
For the wages of sin is death,
but the free gift of God is
eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
