Before and After - AKA Gold Gotta Go

Cheesy post title, huh?

Sometimes, gold is amazing.
It can add a little dazzle,
richness and glamour.

Sometimes it is cheesy.
Cheap, flashy, tacky...
need I say more?

This mirror was cheesy.
Cheap-looking gold and silver spray...
(OK - the photo is actually upside down.
I was distracted by the cheesy finish.
I bought this mirror because the shape is interesting.)

Those poor little upside-down cherubs are much,
much happier after a coat of taupe-gray paint,
and some highlighting in Old White ASCP.

Instead of cheesy, it now looks elegant.
I'll use it for a gallery wall in my dining room.

This gilded candlestick was nice, not cheesy.
I considered keeping it. But...no.

It has lovely details, so
it got the Old White treatment, too.

After a little distressing,
it makes a great addition to my living room.

This frame was not exactly terrible...

HOWEVER,
in my mission to paint everything
in sight with a nice coat of white,
it got a little dry-brushing, too.
I left just a touch of gold at the center.

And last but not least,
these were free from church.
They used to hang above
Sunday School class doors.
When we repainted this summer,
they were taken down.
Susan asked if I wanted them
for my garage sale.
I said YES.

Then I thought I might
see what a nice coat of ASCP
might do for the look of them.
I popped out the plastic jewels,
and brushed on the Old White.

Quel difference!

I may put something where the jewels were;
maybe numbers, Bible pages, or small graphics.
Any suggestions?

Word for the Day:
Revelation 3:18
I counsel you to buy from me
gold refined by fire,
so that you may be rich,
and white garments
so that you may clothe yourself
and the shame of your
nakedness may not be seen,
and salve to anoint your eyes,
so that you may see.

Revi,
Great transformations! I agree gold can be a good thing or not so good! I think bible pages in the center of your crosses would be perfect!

Numbers would be great on your crosses, or how about "Faith" "Hope" "Love"? Just a thought. A little white just transforms everything. Love the mirror too. It will look good on a gallery wall. Great post!

I love all the different things you've painted white. You really stretched that can of ASCP!

Those crosses look nice painted white. I'd go with a graphic for sure. I like the idea of book pages...or perhaps sheet music or something.

Ooh, I bet they would be cool with the jewels back in on top of the white.
