Yesterday, I went shopping. Yes, to a thrift store, but
also to a new shopping place on Route 66 aka 6th Street
in Amarillo; The Nat - which opened in 1922 as an enclosed
swimming pool, evolved into a music venue that has
hosted the likes of Benny Goodman, Louis Armstrong,
Little Richard and countless other musicians since opening in the 1920's.
The building is on the Texas and National Registry of Historic places.
Though it had fallen into disrepair, The Nat
has recently been renovated by a young entrepreneur,
and is now home to over 55 antiques sellers and artists.
It opened the first week of May. I had not had an opportunity
to make it by until my excursion yesterday.
I spent a whopping eight bucks, and found three of these...
with which I plan to make one of these lamp shades...
I also found these for two bucks each:
One is ceramic and the other is brass.
They're house numbers - zeros, of course.
They will be added to my gallery wall
in the living room...the one I've been talking
about for weeks now.
At the little thrift store, I was intrigued by this...
The guy told me it was driftwood, but
I recognized it as a skeleton of a Saguaro Cactus.
I have something very special planned for this skeleton...
It was immediately apparent to me. I'm wondering...

What!? You have a place with all those vendors? How fun! Glad you got to go, and what cool stuff you got. I have no idea what you are going to do with that skeleton thingy. But your doilies remind me of growing up. My mom made them and every surface seemed to have one on it when we were kids. That lamp will be too cool. Can't wait to see how yours turns out.

Ok... I think the doilies are a fantastic find always! I buy them when I see them. In moderation of course. They'll make cool lamp shades.
The Zeros...will be a nice touch to the collage wall.
The Suguaro Cactus skeleton...hmmm if you split it open, maybe a set of wings?

Let me just say I can't resist anything that is advertised as "offbeat." I love all of your items. I'm especially fond of doilies, which I have been crocheting since I was bout nine. The saguaro skeleton is incredible. Can't wait to see your shade, your wall and your skeleton whatever.
I love old letters and numbers! I started collecting them too late I think, they are hard to find now. Cute what-nots!
I love that doily. What a cute idea on the lampshade. I've never seen that before....but now I've filed it away for inspiration!
