Industrial Arts...

A new painting and an industrial-elegant vignette...

Show of hands...how many of you like collage as much as I do?

I know you're out there...I've seen your work...and I love it.

Here's my latest piece - actually a reworked piece from a decade ago.

Do you recognize anything here?

It's canvas wrapped around wood, painted with acrylic,
with gold leaf, graphite and found objects including
a rusty brake, a stainless machined metal piece,
an aluminium disc, an erector set piece (pierced metal)
and a piece of rusty, crusty tin or steel.

I like this piece resting inside the faux French frame...

I flanked it with some deconstructed books,
another faux topiary, a rusty finial, and the little bird I freed
from a rusty cage on one side...

...a faux mercury glass lamp with a drum shade,
a forged bronze candlestick,
a vintage flower frog and an iron or bronze
whatchamacallit on the other side.

( Did you notice how many times I said faux,
rusty, iron and bronze? Hmmmm.)

It's funny how one new piece can call for
a completely new rearrangement of
things to make a new vignette.

Everything in this vignette was either made by me
or it was found in a thrift store or at a garage sale.

One thing sticks out, though. The faux topiary.
I wrapped the stick in green floral tape.
I need some brown tape. Do they make that?
The green looks BAAAAD.
Sorry, I hope you get the general idea.
But green floral tape was not really the
little pop of color I was intending...

Have you noticed how I always promise to
fix something and show you a better
version at a later date? Well, yes.
I hope to do that in this case as well.

Maybe I'll do a post of
"Afters and After-Afters:
The revised, improved afters."

And you'll be the first to know. :)

Word for the Day:
Joshua 6:19
But all silver and gold, and every vessel of bronze and iron,
are holy to the LORD; they shall go into the treasury of the LORD.”

Gallery Walls and Fingerprints

I  have a "thing" for gallery walls. They intrigue me in a variety of ways!
I love a little something unexpected, and they offer that in spades!

I love it that you can assemble deer antlers,
a vintage Souvenir de Paris,
house numbers and thrift store mirrors
and somehow make it work.

Gallery walls  tell more about who we are,
where we've been and what we like
than any single art piece can do. They are
as unique as their makers. No two
are ever exactly alike - just like fingerprints.

At least that's what Ky told me.
She's making herself at home on the new sofa.
I have a piece of plastic floor cover on it that
deterred her for a while. Now, she's ok with it.

I enjoyed hanging things on the wall this week.
So much that I also did another little gallery across the room...
It's not finished and won't be for a while, but I have kept you in suspense
for so long I decided to show you some progress this week!
If you look closely, you'll notice items from
my garage as well as recent thrifting adventures.

UPDATE:  Several friends reminded me in comments
another reason I love gallery walls: they are able to evolve.
Just like our lives are added to and changed, so are they.
We can tweak one part without changing the whole thing.
Soon, I will be experimenting on the sofa - something I've
seen other bloggers do. If it doesn't work, I'll redo it.
Check back this week for more living room details!

Word for the Day:
Psalm 42:1
As the deer pants for streams of water,
so my soul pants for you, my God.
