Real art is soulful - it has depth.
When a traditional, vintage frame is paired with contemporary or modern art - especially abstract or non-objective art...I get a little thrill.
When I find a nice chunky frame at a thrift store for a couple of bucks, I also get little thrill.
So, I have had a few thrills lately. G-rated ones. :)
The art in this one was really pretty good...but I had a different plan. This was for Hannah's bedroom. No color there. So, I tried to take the canvas out, but it was glued in or something pretty permanent.
So, I just painted it in the frame.
I also felt a tad guilty painting this one...again, not bad. Just not me. Or Hannah.
This canvas was removable, so I painted the frame white and distressed it a bit, then waxed it.
When Hannah called today, I told her I was considering keeping them...because I liked them. She played the old, "You like them more than you love me....?" card.
She did that the last time she came home, and was picking through my recent batch of thrift store finds. I told her that little trick had an expiration date...and I'm sticking to it!
Still, the good thing about painting your own art is that you can always make more. And it's very, very thrifty. Especially when you use thrift store frames and canvases.

Yes, I love new art in old frames...
It may not be everyone's cup of tea, which is fine with me. Our homes should reflect our likes, our thrills, our passions.
It is a never-ending work in progress...but a true labor of love.

Really nice Revi ... They will look beautiful on your gallery wall, that is if Hannah does not talk you out of them. I was very much an amateur, but I used to paint a little and hated the expense of frames and canvas, so I did the same thing you are doing, shopped the thrifts. I painted over other paintings. One frame had a wonderful old painting in it and I was glad I did not paint over it.
