Vintage Trunk Revision

I had my eye on this handsome fella for years...

But when he first caught my eye, he looked a bit different.

Some well-meaning soul had painted
him to match the decor in a Sunday School classroom.
It was called, "Camp Galilee," hence the blue.

The walls were painted in a beachy mural,
with Biblical figures around a campfire.

When the space was reconfigured last year
and furnishings were pared down, my director
asked if I wanted to take him home with me.

It took about a millisecond to say "YES!"

After a while, I brought out the stinky stripper,
a scraper and a wire brush.

A medium-sized can of elbow grease was all it took.

After a little while, this well-traveled gent was looking spiffy!

Even though his leather straps were long-gone.

His hardware was ornate and he sported a beautiful patina.

I could give him another once-over, which I'm still considering.
But I think he looks pretty great with  a few remnants of his recent past.

I haven't a clue about his provenance.
That's fine. I can imagine one.

Still, I wonder where in the world he may have been!

2 Chronicles 24:8-10

8 At the king’s command, a chest was made and
placed outside, at the gate of the temple of the LORD.
9 A proclamation was then issued in Judah and
Jerusalem that they should bring to the LORD
the tax that Moses the servant of God had
required of Israel in the desert. 10 All the officials
and all the people brought their contributions gladly,
dropping them into the chest until it was full.

May your treasure chest remain full of every
blessing the Lord has for you!

These flat top trunks are such a treasure. They are getting harder to find. You did a really good job refinishing it. What will you store in it?

What an outstanding job you did on the trunk. I can hardly believe it's the same item. I refinished a trunk one time but I started with a cream puff compared to that blue paint. Really, you did a wonderful job!

I can't believe you took the time to restore the trunk. It turned out beautiful - I wouldn't change anything. Followed over from Be Different.

Thank you for saving this trunk! It's gorgeous.

Great trunk and you did a wonderful job of refinishing it. Did you seal it with anything, or was that not necessary? It looks great.

This is wonderful! I love the transformation. I have a trunk that I have been putting off fixing because I am afraid of the task. Did you have to strip the inside at all?

Old trunks are such wonderful projects. And I love how you tied Scripture into the post at the end. By the way, you could replace the missing handles with vintage leather belts from the thrift store...if you were so inclined. ;)

Thanks for linking to Time Travel Thursday.
