This past weekend, I realized more than ever that I suffer from sewing-project-aphobia. Yes, a new word in my vocabulary.
I do not think it is a phobia for ALL textiles, because I did manage to use some wide satin ribbon to complete the spring mantel.
However, I have purchased two cute fabrics, with which I intended to sew a few simple pillows to complete my spring living room make-over.
It did not help that I broke my Dollar Tree scissors while attempting to cut a canvas board that almost fit a newly-painted white frame...
If you cannot cut the fabric, you are basically at a standstill.
I can show you a new gallery wall behind the cute-pillowless sofa...
In this wall, I use an ancient ironstone platter, white Italian frames in the French style, some faux-aged mirrors in which I improved my technique, and some sconces I purchased at 80 percent off at Hobby Lobby years ago.
Across from the mantel is the free white storage bench I got last fall. Above it is a collection of art - the larger piece is one of mine, done for this room recently.
The smaller still life with a bird nest is an oil painted years ago by an anonymous church member. No one claimed it, so when it was offered to me, I took it and others, some of which will be painted over and others I will keep as is.
The purple iris painting is one I found at a thrift store years ago for .57c. It was painted on canvas board. I had to trim it to fit this frame. The small oval impressionist landscape is also one I did to complete the vignette.
EVERYTHING (except the toile pillow) in this photo was purchased at a thrift store or garage sale, painted white or with chalkboard paint.
Even the floral stems were purchased at a thrift store. They're the really good ones that cost big bucks at Hobby Lobby. I paid .50c each for 9 of them.
To the left of the storage bench is the desk-table I rescued from curbside garbage decades ago.
The French chair was a $5 find at a thrift store. It is painted in ASCP French Linen - cushion and all.
On the table/desk is another painting, done by me for this room redo, on one of the free canvases from church.
There is a small piece of art glass I have had for decades, a piece of handmade pottery (thrifted), some framed photos of my children, a topiary from a recent thrift store trip, and a lamp I painted to look like an old weathered baluster.
To the right side of the storage bench is the primitive chest.
I plan to switch out this lamp until fall as well. I recently painted the faux metal French-style frame, which may get some antiquing wax at some point. Except for the small piece of art glass and the greenery, everything in this vignette is from a thrift store or garage sale (even the candle.)
I have redone the shelving vignettes, removing the metal objects. They are styled in a variety of vintage whites.
The vintage trunk coffee table has a piece of vintage crocheted lace on it, an American art pottery bowl with crystals, amethyst, and odds and ends inside. There is a larger piece of art glass, purchased from the artist decades ago.
Last but not least, the wall between the front window and the front door, which I showed you before. More of my own artwork mixed with vintage things are used here.
I have had fun with this room, adding in the radiant violet and other shades of violet here and there for a lighter springtime look!
It should work until summer, until I am ready for something different, maybe a switch back to all neutrals and adding in my industrial things again.
Word for the Day:
Job 29:23
They waited for me as for showers and drank in my words as the spring rain.
