A Three Dollar Day

Yesterday morning on my way to work, I saw a sign.
No, not one of THOSE signs, a Garage Sale sign.

So, I decided to circle the block and visit it.
After all, I need more stuff. Especially the
kind of stuff you find at Garage Sales.

It was not a huge sale, but there were some nice things.
As I drove up, a lady was loading a nice little table.
I imagined it was cheap, and wished I had arrived a bit sooner.

So, all I ended up with was this little white thingy:

It had a white candle inside and a .75c sticker on it.

By the end of the day, after work, the candle looked like this:

I haven't cleaned it yet. See:

And I couldn't pass this up for a quarter:

Of course, I'll paint it white.

I would've sprayed a bunch of things today,
but it is very windy - not good for spray painting.

So, off to work I went - Hi Ho, Hi Ho!

After work, I had plans to go bowling.
Yes BOWLING.
My cousin was here from Dallas, and my
aunt thought it would be fun to go out
for burgers and bowling.

I've bowled 3 times in my life.
Suffice it to say I am not good.
Let's leave it at that.
But I'm usually up for something new!

On the way, to my aunt's house,
I stopped by the new thrift store near my work.
I bought this for two bucks:

See the little green sticker?

It's a wee bit shabby and rickety.
I guess I like things like that.
It had at one time been hung by this cord:

But it apparently failed.

Good thing the little mirror didn't break!
It has a certain amount of charm,
like the way the glass is cut to follow the shape,

And some "character" that made the guy
who sold it to me apologize.

I told him it didn't bother me.

I didn't tell him I liked it that way.
It does have one fairly major flaw, though:

I wonder how it happened?
At first I thought I'd just paint it white
and call it "character."

But, I'm kinda liking the dark wood for my living room...

Three things. All in all, not a bad $3 day!

Word for the Day:

Matthew 18:20
For where two or three come together
in my name, there am I with them.”

May you ALWAYS know He is always with you.

FOUND WHITES & Bad Moves

I found this little white vase for .50c.
It's about 4 inches tall. I thought it was cute.

I also thought it was American-made.
I noticed the raised lettering around the
bottom - "MADE IN TAIWAN"
Oh, well. It's still cute for .50c

This little hobnail milk glass pitcher was a bargain.
It's small, too. It may hold 2 or 3 cups of milk or juice,
but it's no where near two quarts.

My favorite found white milk glass piece is this one:

I have never seen another one.
It appears to be an old after-shave
bottle. Does anyone recognize it?

I was so excited to find it! I thought it was cute
and I paid $2 to bring it home. I had plans to
use it as a bud vase or put it in my bathroom.
At least until this...

Tragic. I'm bummed.

One false move and...
my first photographic casualty.

Why, oh why couldn't it have been
the little Taiwan thingy?

Word for the Day:

Psalm 147:3
He heals the broken hearted and binds up their wounds.

May all the broken things in your life
be bound up or restored in His perfect time.

Color Theory #4 - White - Is it a Color? Facts, Physics and Faith.

Let's review a bit:
Color does not exist without light.
Light contains all color,
literally a rainbow spectrum.

Fact: the definition of light from Dictionary.com:

#1 - something that makes things visible or
affords illumination: All colors depend on light.

#2  - Physics (if you're interested - otherwise skip this part!)
a.
electromagnetic radiation to which the organs of sight
react, ranging in wavelength from about 400 to 700 nm
and propagated at a speed of 186,282 mi./sec (299,972km/sec),
considered variously as a wave, corpuscular,or quantum phenomenon.

b.
a similar form of radiant energy that does not affect the retina,
as ultraviolet or infrared rays.

Faith:
Genesis 1:3-4
And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light.
God saw that the light was good,
and he separated the light from the darkness.
The Validity of Jesus’ Testimony ]
The light shines in the darkness
When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said,
I am the light of the world
Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness,
but will have the light of life.”

The light shines in the darkness,
but the darkness has not understood it.

Walking in the Light ]

This is the message we have heard from him
and declare to you: God is light
in him there is no darkness at all.

Fact: the definition of white from dictionary.com:

White: of the color of pure snow, of the margins of this page, etc.;
reflecting nearly all the rays of sunlight or a similar light.

OKAY, did you get that?
All colors depend on light.
White reflects nearly all the rays of light.

Faith:

“Come now, let us reason together,” says the LORD.

“Though your sins are like scarlet,
they shall be as white as snow;
though they are red as crimson,
they shall be like wool.

Always be clothed in white

and always anoint your head with oil.

His clothes became dazzling white

whiter than anyone in the world could bleach them.

Fact: definition of reflect from Dictionary.com:

Reflect: to cast back (light, heat, soundetc.) from a surface.

Now we see but a poor reflection as in a mirror;

then we shall see face to face.
Now I know in part;
then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.

If you have read this far,
you are beginning
to get to the interesting part!

What is the opposite of white?
Easy. Black.

Fact: definition of black from dictionary.com:

    #1
lacking hue and brightness; absorbing light
without reflecting any of the rays composing it.
#2
characterized by absence of light;
enveloped in darkness: black night.

Fact: definition of absorb from dictionary.com:

 #1 to suck up or drink in (a liquid);
soak up: A sponge absorbs water.
#2 to swallow up the identity or individuality of; incorporate:
The empire absorbed many small nations.

Physics: white reflects almost all color,
and black absorbs all color.

Try this: On a hot summer day,
place your hand on the hood of a white car.
Now place your hand on the hood of a black car.
Feel the difference?

This is where things begin to get
sort of backwards
and possibly confusing:
(a paradox)

Physics: This fabulous magenta sofa is not really magenta.

It is actually every color in the spectrum BUT magenta.
Magenta is what is reflected, not absorbed.
It consequently appears to be magenta...

Wild to think about, huh?
Now keep that train of thought...

Faith: The Bible is full of seemingly paradoxical concepts.

Fact: definition of Paradox from dictionary.com:
a statement or proposition that seems
self-contradictory orabsurd but in reality
expresses a possible truth.

 Faith:
For whoever wants to save his life will lose it,
but whoever loses his life for me will save it.

Matthew 5:5
Blessed are the meek,
for they will inherit the earth.

“So the last will be first, and the first will be last.”

The people walking in darkness have seen a great light;
on those living in the land of the shadow of death a light has dawned.

But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood,
a holy nation, a people belonging to God,
that you may declare the praises of him
who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.

To integrate all these thoughts,
Jesus, light of the world, is dressed in white robes,
took nothing from us but our sins.
He gave everything so we could live in heaven with
our creator God, who cannot be in the presence
of darkness or sin.

The prince of darkness absorbs all light.
He reflects or gives nothing back.
He cannot know light or color.

Simple Physics: darkness and light cannot
exist in the same place at the same time.

Do you love it as much as I do when science
confirms what the Word tells us?

This resurrection day remembrance
is written in awe of and with thanksgiving
to the one who gave His all for us.
We receive His gift of light and life
and look forward to the day when
we will behold His face!
