Seven Things to Do with a Vintage Door Knob

#1 - Sweet Tina gave me this one.

It re-corks an open wine bottle, or demijohn in this case...

It keeps my collection of vintage bar ware company. I found a short video from HGTV with pretty simple instructions HERE.

Here are six more clever ways to use vintage door knobs found via Pinterest:

#2 - This adorable adaptation is from Angie at Knick of Time's Etsy shop. Sorry, it is long gone, but she may have more!

It could hold photos, recipe cards, or keepsake ephemera.

#3 - Check out this pretty yet functional use from Urban Outfitters! This one may not be vintage...but it's a jumping off point.

Doorknob as curtain tieback -- we love it, but so much more with an antique doorknob and backplate! And we carry gadgets now that make these very easy to install.

I wonder if they make hardware for retro-fitting vintage knobs...

#4 - A vintage door knob turnes an old egg basket into an instant cloche - from Margo at robojunker.com!

Note to self: find a nice rusty egg basket to go with your old door knob.

#5 - The next one takes the traditional doorknob function and turns it on its side. Literally.

It was once listed at Room 363, but is not there anymore. Still, you could recreate this...or I could...SOMEONE should!

#6 - I was gonna say this one was for the birds, but that was way too corny...way, way, way...sorry. :) This one is from
Reclaimed Trends on Etsy. Sorry again...long gone, but they do custom orders if you're interested.

And last but not least - this one is SO charming!

# 7 is from Shannon AKA Junkflirt- A Southern Belle with Northern Roots. Do you want to make one, too? Great! She has a tutorial! This one is going on my "to-do" list. I think I might be able to keep flowers like this alive! :)

Word for the Day:
“Strive to enter through the narrow door. For many, I tell you, will seek to enter and will not be able.

Thrifty Life Thursday #13 and Finding Fabulous Just as It Comes

For those of us who frequent thrift stores, garage sales, and the occasional curbside treasure pile, work is to be expected.

It is part of the equation, and most of us enjoy the process almost as much as finding the treasure...almost.

But the thrill of finding something that is perfect just as you find it maybe the best kind of thrill!

My china doll head was found for pennies at a thrift store. Later, the same thrift store brought me the Italian Tole piece for a few dollars. A different thrift store brought two small silver plates for about .40c each - it was half price day, and they were marked .75c. (If, like me, you don't polish silver because you actually LIKE the patina of tarnish, there is no work involved.)

Today's features are all items that were perfect just as they were found.

Terry from Forever Decorating shared a stairwell gallery of vintage photos. Some are family photos, and others were "adopted" via auctions and antique stores. I love that she mixed them up! It shows a spirit of grace...

Roxie from Sweet Vintage of Mine shared a very awesome curbside find - a vintage galvanized tub in pristine condition!

Pinterest is full of fun ways to use these things, and I have a friend who put a glass on top and uses a similar one in her breakfast room as a table. They are also great for icing down drinks at parties! Roxie's were FREE. Woo Hoo!

Daniela from Frugal Ain't Cheap shared a trio of vintage baskets she has collected - all for $13. What a great way to add vintage style and texture that also functions as storage!

I'm feeling the urge to visit a thrift store...aren't you?

    • Hand-me-downs and curbside finds are welcome, as are items found in thrift stores, garage sales, antique shops, flea markets and other interesting places.
    • Treasures may be listed as you found them, or with your updates, tweaks, and re-purposes; befores and afters are both welcome.
    • Items need not be "vintage" but must be pre-owned or second hand.
    • Posts including Etsy and other shop links are welcome! For visitor enjoyment, please link to your blog post, not directly to your Etsy shop.

      • Featured items must meet the criteria above.
      • Only posts that link back may be featured.
      • I will try to email you and let you know if you were featured!

      Word for the Day:
      Hebrews 10:24-25
      24
And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, 25 not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.
