Saturday Thrift Store & Garage Sale Finds...

I seriously had not planned to go to any garage sales or thrift stores today. Ethan made me do it.

My eldest son phoned last night and said he'd found a Craig's List ad for a garage sale near me, and it had glass-blowing tools and supplies for a good price. He wondered if I might be planning to get out...and of course, being a "good mom" I headed out there first thing this morning.

I ended up buying a box of stuff for him, which I think was probably worth quite a bit more than I paid for it. It will be an early birthday present.

While I was there, I looked around. There were some pretty cool things, and the prices were good. The little chest above was $2. I think It will not be painted...it's perfect like it is. It may go to my friend, Cathy, next weekend, if she likes it!

I also found a smallish painting in a nice gilded wood frame. It's a little "granny chic" but definitely not a paint-over canvas. I like it.

The frame has a couple of areas with issues, but I have antique gold Rub 'N' Buff...

And the best part? It cost a buck. Garage sales are the bomb!

I also found a lovely silver dish with a lid. It was monogrammed, and not tarnished.

I could see a hallmark, but had to get it home to read it.

Google told me it means Electro Plated Nickle Silver. It may be English Sheffield, but the bearded man is a mystery. Any clues?

Each piece was marked $2, but I thought that was reasonable for a heavy piece with a lovely design.

I figure finding these nice things was maybe my reward for being a good mom today. It's nice to have an opportunity to be a good mom to adult kids. :)

  8. That sounded like so much fun! My daughter found a little chest like that at GW this summer. It's missing a knob on one of the drawers but she didn't care. She fell in love with it and had to have it. Love all the other goodies too Revi! You are a fantastic Mom!
