Today, I enjoyed having something turn out just as I hoped it would. Success at stripping! Normally I'm putting ON the paint. I do enjoy that process so much more than taking it off...
I also was bummed because something didn't turn out well at all. A small industrial box was immune to stripper. Quel dommage! I just wonder what kind of paint it is!
Of course, the big success is pictured above. I LOVE it. I'm pretty sure it is from Mexico. It was tres grungy when I found it, but I hoped it would look just like it does after a little stripper and some elbow grease.
I did not lie when I told you it was grungy. It was spray painted gold, over chartreuse. (NO, not by me.)
I spied it at the now-defunct Jack & Greg's thrift store, and paid a buck-fifty for it. (At least that's what it was marked. They always bundled there, so it could've been less.)
Though I had mixed results. It was all worth it just for the results with the Mexican tray.
This metal sugar canister was antiqued 70s avocado green paint, which turned out to be painted over a yellow enamel bottom with a black lid. (The photo below is a truer color.)
It still needs some more elbow grease and maybe another coat of stripper, but I'm finished stripping for the day. So it can wait until another Saturday - unless a little scraping with a razor blade will do the trick.
I'll also be doing a little more detail work on this baby:
I actually considered leaving traces of chartreuse in the creases, because a little pop of chartreuse is something I appreciate. (Remember my kitchen?)
But Hannah advised to get it all off. ("It's not white...")
I think she's right. So, out come the little files and picks. But it can wait for a weeknight while I watch a little TV.
Now, I just need to figure out where it will live...
Word for the Day:
Matthew 27:31
And when they had mocked him, they stripped him of the robe and put his own clothes on him and led him away to crucify him.

I haven't stripped in years - furniture that is. I love the tray and the canister is coming along. I hope modern stripping agents are less stinky than they used to be.
ReplyDeleteI just purchased some stripper yesterday at Lowe's for a major undertaking on an antique sideboard that I bought over a year ago but I haven't tackled it yet due to all the grunge that has to go first before the redo. Anxious to try the stripper out since I've never used it before. I picked up the same one that I see in your photo, I sure hope it works for my job. So many, many grooves to clean out.
ReplyDeletewow! that's a LOT of work! It does look so much bette, so I guess that is your weekend reward :)
ReplyDeleteIt is so pretty stripped! I love it too when thinks come out surprisingly well. Thanks for sharing and blessings to you, Patti
ReplyDeleteWow, that was a lot of work, and turned out so nicely!!! I have two of the same tray, and they were a wedding gift in 1960, they are from Mexico and are tin. Still use them....
ReplyDeleteThat tray is so cool! I will make a great backdrop to one of your cute vignettes!

The tray is way cool Revi. Sounds like lots of work. I haven't stripped anything (other than this body) in years. Believe me, that's not a pretty sight. lol! Thanks for sharing with SYC.
