See it? The old bag on the bench.
Another find from Jack & Greg's almost-defunct shop, around the corner from my workplace.
The details are amazing - quality hardware, stitching, reinforced corners. It would set you back a bundle if it were to be purchased new today!
The inside is also leather, and in fairly pristine shape compared to the outside.
Rough as it is, I was drawn to it like a moth to a flame.
Speaking of flames...do you think it could have been damaged in a fire?
Or maybe that is water damage. I don't know...
It probably got plenty of wear even before it was damaged.
So why in the world did this old bag come home with me?
Am I the house-mother of a home for old bags? (Two...)
Well, maybe. For some strange reason (even to me), this totally useless, very damaged bag appealed to me.
Aside from admiring it for what it used to be, I was intrigued by the damage and wear on it. I wanted to know its story.
But somehow, for now, I think however this bag got into this sorry state, it deserves the right to be esteemed as a "trophy bag." I plan to use it somewhere, somehow in my decor.
And while it remains a mystery, I can imagine a history.
I'm curious. Would an old bag tickle your fancy, or would you toss it in the garbage?
Word for the Day:
Job 14:16-17
16 For then you would number my steps;
you would not keep watch over my sin;
17 my transgression would be sealed up in a bag,
and you would cover over my iniquity.

Neat old bag! (Not you... Tee hee)
ReplyDeleteI'm wondering if it was discolored from heat, but maybe not a fire. Attics can get very very hot...
Either way, it does have a back story. I also wonder about them, too.
THanks so much for stopping by!
Jillian
Hmm...I feel like it could be patched up with something sort of collage-like with new leather or some other completely random fabric, paper or some other medium. It's pretty cool. I'm drawn to boxes myself, so I get the attraction. I never know what to do with all the boxes I come home with either. I can see you fitting this in somehow. It'll make for great character in your decor!

I love it! I wish I had a big basement to show off all the 'old' stuff I find!
ReplyDeleteoh, revi, i've been looking for such a bag, but, haven't found one yet. i love the tattered look, and would use it as a vase to hold tons and pink roses! great find.1
ReplyDeleteThis beautiful bag, in my humble opinion, is crying out to be filled with flowers or any seasonal decoration. To me it says, "I've worked so hard, I've served man, can I now be decorated and admired?"
ReplyDeleteFrom one senior citizen speaking up for another.
Old bags definately would tickle me. Can't wait to see how you use it in a vignette. Does kind of look like it could have been in a fire. Very cool Revi! Thanks for sharing with SYC.
ReplyDeletehugs,
Jann
Hi Revi, love this! I have one similar and was told it's a salesman's sample bag. Damaged or not it's a great piece. Have you seen these filled with faux flowers? really neat seeing them with greenery and blooms.
ReplyDeleteThat's gorgeous. You could spend hours coming up with fantastic stories about where that bag's been. If it were me, I'd use it to store yarn - one can never have too much yarn storage - although I love Lynn's suggestion to use it to hold pink roses!
