Sometimes, thrift store experiences are a step a way from being classified as small miracles.
For example...finding 3 bottles at Jack & Greg's shop.
I knew I would find a use for them - whether it was utilitarian or decorative. They were a good price, and I like bottles.
As I perused the clearance table, I spotted this:
This little tote was painted up in a cute patriotic motif.
I'll admit, I felt a little guilty painting this one.
But only for a short while! I felt better when I sang "God Bless America" while giving it a coat of white paint.
But I'm getting ahead of myself. Before the paint, I tried the bottles, and they didn't fit. They were just a bit too tight. That was before I yanked out the two center dividers with my bare hands. Yes, ladies and gentlemen, my bare hands. I've been known to use my thumb nails as screw drivers in a pinch, too.
I trimmed the long wood staples with my bare hands as well. My friend friction broke them off at the surface.
Then, the coat of home-made faux chalk paint (Plaster of Paris recipe) worked a little magic.
The tall handle allows plenty of room for a few garden blooms.
I was pleased with my own match-making skills. The bottles and crate would not have fit together any better if I had measured, cut and constructed the box myself! (Which I would not have done.)
I seem to be getting this lesson in a variety of ways lately. Don't bother working needlessly. Sometimes, all you have to do is wait.
This sweet assemblage will probably be headed for my Etsy shop this weekend.
Word for the Day:
Psalm 37:7
Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him; fret not yourself over the one who prospers in his way, over the man who carries out evil devices!

ReplyDeleteOh that bottle and crate makeover is too cute!
ReplyDeleteI like bottles and jugs myself on occasion.
I just whipped out a large vase destined to the dumpster (left over from under sink clean out)...filled it with water and stuffed to 'lovingly hand-picked bouquets' of Indian paintbrushes brought to my by my 2 grandsons right in there and smiles filled the room!
The 5 yr old said... "Oma! I love it!)
he's a sweetie!
...Now, I'm off to check out the etsy, how is that going for you?
Pat

Such a cute post. Loved your God Bless America line. I love a good patriotic item, but sometimes it just doesn't work. You made it much better and I love it with the bottles. Someone's going to snatch that right up!
