It all depends. (As my long-time friend Cathy once said, "It all depends a lot on everything!")
It depends if you're asking about my bread box...or if you were wondering about my chartreuse and red kitchen.
Two weeks ago, my kitchen was irritating my current obsession for a neutral, light environment.
The weekend before Resurrection Sunday, I painted the walls and the red door. (This door goes to the garage.)
The walls are a mix of oops paints mixed together to make a nice khaki color.
The red door and the formerly blank area above the sink, (where a window used to be) were painted with Rustoleum Chalk Board paint.
Tonight I painted the back splash a neutral warm gray. (An oops sample I got for .50c at Lowe's.)
If I had any budget at all, I'd redo counter tops, light fixtures and flooring. But I don't.
Still, I never cease to marvel at what a difference a bit of fresh paint makes in any room!
It no longer assaults my senses to round the corner from my soft dining room and be slapped in the face with the chartreuse and red combination I once found so fun.
The fun stuff has not yet begun - accessorizing my newly neutral kitchen with things I've been picking up at thrift stores, painting, and stashing away for this occasion!
The kitchen, like the living room and dining room I neutralized last year, will be a mixture of industrial, vintage, hand made quirky items. In six years, I'll probably be ready for more color. Maybe even before then. But for now, I'm pleased. I'll show you more when I get it finished. (Well, finished without the floor, counter tops, light fixtures and possibly pulls.)
My vintage enameled English bread box is authentic - a treasured find from a Houston auction 27 years ago. How much did I pay for this lovely, chippy beauty?
Don't hate me; five dollars.
Even then, it was a steal. I also purchased several pieces of furniture, some of which I still have.
Hey-Does anyone have any great ideas for inexpensive industrial looking pulls for my cabinetry?
I am pretty sure a trip to the hardware store is in order.

Oh I like that bread box! The colors you chose are pretty too. Not glaring or harsh.
ReplyDeleteHow about for drawer pulls you can uses some water spigot handles/knobs. They come in the colors of blue, red, yellow, and black... Could be costly depending on how many you need.
If I think of something else...I'll let you know.
I like what you're doing in here...and on a budget! It's real.
Pat
Love the neutral colors, and the old bread box is awesome.
ReplyDeleteBlessings, Trisha
You are so right...it does assault the senses when you no longer care for a color combo. I'm so glad you got it done. I know you must have a wonderful stash of treasures to delight us with when you start accessorizing.
ReplyDeleteGood call on that bread box so long ago! I love it.
Thanks for your prayers during the storm...no damage and we all slept peacefully thru the night. Yay!
Hugs, Tina
Super deal on the bread box! I have one very similar that I paid almost a $100 for years ago!
ReplyDeleteyes to paint!! great deal on that breadbox! sometime re-store or goodwill have pulls (I have seen new ones still in the package)
ReplyDeleteawesome door, revi! and i LOVE that great breadbox, too! as for the pulls, maybe a pull with a metal label holder above it? you know, those thingys i put on each of my cubbies...
ReplyDeleteYour kitchen is looking great...and I love your bread box. Is there a way to keep the lid from continuing to rust..? I THINK there is something you can put on it but no clue what it is. Maybe you can google and find something. It's a beautiful box....
ReplyDeleteAgain, you inspired me! I need to get out the paint. I think spigot handles would be good or those half moon shaped stainless steel ones. Like drawer pulls.
ReplyDeleteLove your blog!
Clara
Ooo, I love it! What a fun thing to do, painting some chalkboard paint on the door and the blank area. I just love that you will get to put your finds to use where you can enjoy them! What amazing things you have. That bread box is unbelievable. About that hardware. Surely you can find something cool while out thrifting that would be fun. Hope you find just the thing!

Don't you think we have lost some of the simple charms of life like a great bread box? Thanks for sharing it. I love the way it looks in your kitchen.

Oh wow! I love your new look! I love that you made that door a chalkboard! You decorations are gonna look great! Thank you for sharing at Rustic Restorations Weekend!
ReplyDeleteHa, ha Revi, when I read about the pulls I was just going to say, head the hardware store. Then I scrolled down and thats just what you said. I saw some fun mini vises uses on a coat rack in the St. George Home Show. Maybe something like that would be fun. Oh girl, I am coveting your bread box. (Thou shall NOT covet)Seriously, great find! Love the new colors too. Thanks for sharing with SYC.
