One of the sweet surprises I have enjoyed
in this home is a long stretch of grapevine
growing along a fence on one side of my house.
The first few falls I lived here, I made
garlands of the vines to wrap my archway.
I haven't done it in years. Thanks, blog friends,
for helping me want to do it again!
Yesterday, I snipped off vine - some of which was dead
from the past two years of drought. But amazingly,
some is still thriving in spite of the lack of water.
I left the leaves on it, which I should have done before!
I'd spend a good amount of time stripping the leaves.
It was the worst part of assembling the garland.
Yesterday, I decided the dead, brown leaves might be
a good thing this year with my neutral scheme.
For today, though, they're nice and greenish.
You can see my green windows here, too.
They were brown when I moved here, and the
brick was not painted. I painted the windows red
to go with my red door. I removed ugly storm windows.
The old glazing cracked and made the paint peel.
After several touch-ups, I decided to replace the
old glazing and a cracked pane. It was not the
easiest project I've ever done! But at that point,
I scraped, primed and painted the windows green.
That was about 3 years ago.
In the next few weekends, the green windows
will be painted gray to match my door.
Speaking of my door...
I wired some faux greenery and feathers together
and attached them to an old rusty rake head
to make a sort of wreath-esque thingy for my door.
Floral arranging is not my forte, obviously, but
it will do for now. I had the things at home,
so there was no money spent on it!
I may still add to my exterior...and if I do,
I'll probably post my updated looks.
By then, the leaves on the grape vine should be brown,
and the windows should be gray.
And my neutral theme will be a reality...
Word for the Day:
John 15:1-2
1“I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener.
2 He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit,
while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes
so that it will be even more fruitful.

I love the rake on your door! It looks like fall. Right now the ribbon plays off the window. I hope the weather holds out so you can get it painted.

ReplyDeleteYour home is adorable. I am envious of your little archway and front porch. Isn't that rake a great idea too! I can't wait to see the look with your window painted. Nice touches. And I see your great little wagon vignette is still holding its own. What fun!
