Ten Minutes+Free=HAPPY ME!

I practically RAN across the thrift store
to grab this fake topiary. Pathetic.
Hey - if you had a black thumb,
it could have been YOU, too.

Then when I grabbed it, my heart sank...
just a bit. When I noticed this:

Even though I love shabby, worn, rusty things...
I sometimes draw the line at broken things.
Well, MOST broken things.
I review them on a case by case basis.

Anyway, this topiary in its existing
condition was not something
I could proudly display as is.

But...then again, the pot was not my favorite thing.

I decided to ask if they could reduce the price.
When they said I could have it for FREE, I was a happy girl.

Why was I happy to get a broken fake topiary?
I had a much better pot waiting at home.
I little larger, rustic, authentic, not faux.

Tip: A faux topiary always looks better
in a REAL weathered terra cotta pot. :)

So I took a hammer to the
broken pot and finished it off.
After freeing the styro form insert,
I used the broken pieces to elevate the it,
since the new pot is deeper.

I used even more pieces to wedge it
in tightly, so it wouldn't wiggle around.

The insert is a bit smaller
diameter than the new pot.

I stuffed some moss around
the edges and piled more on top.

It was free. It took three minutes to
take out my frustrations on a broken pot.
A few more to stick the broken pieces
inside the new pot and plop some
moss on top.

Now, if you squint really hard,
from a couple of rooms away, you might think
I have a green thumb...like Loi Thai's

But for a black-thumbed gal in
a semi-arid town where topiaries are
scarce as hen's teeth...it will work. For now.

Word for the Day:
Genesis 9:3
Every moving thing that lives shall be food for you.

And as I gave you the green plants, I give you everything.
