Here's another of my Friday finds...a shoe thingy.
I'm not really sure what it is...maybe a thing
used by someone to re-sole shoes? Let me know
if you can identify this cool vintage object.
It has a notched out piece that attaches to something.
And a number that may or may not correlate to a size.
And when I saw it for $4 at Goodwill, my heart
went pitter pat. I had to bring it home with me.
And I found a nice place to put it, too.
Right next to my other shoe thingy,
on the trunk coffee table.
Gives a whole new meaning to
putting feet on the coffee table,
don't you agree?
Word for the Day:
Exodus 3:5
Then he said, “Do not come near;
Then he said, “Do not come near;
take your sandals off your feet,
for the place on which you are
standing is holy ground.”

A shoe lass is what you have here. I believe for making shoes. You have the start of a collection and like the look of any heavy metal object with a touch of rust. You know me!
ReplyDeleteHa! Too cool. My heart would go pitter pat too! I have missed going to garage and yard sales the past few weekends. Having them is fun, but not as exciting as finding treasure at other people's homes. Next weekend there is an indoor garage sale at the fair grounds here. May have to hit it up! Love seeing what you found!
ReplyDeleteLiz
it looks great with the other fool thingy, revi!
ReplyDeleteCool. I wouldn't have thought to group these two together.
ReplyDeleteHi Revi - I am so glad you stopped by! Thank you kindly!! I love your collection. $4....are you serious? I want one, too. You have such a great eye. I love the two displayed together.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing!
Cheers from DC,
Loi
What a great find! The two look good together!
ReplyDeleteGreat paperweights! I've seen similar items used in outdoor entertaining on the corners to hold down the tablecloths - great repurposing, huh?! Love your blog; I'm your newest follower!
ReplyDeleteMy mom used to have several shoe lasses when I was little and yes,we used them for paper weights! I wonder if she still has those- will have to ask!
ReplyDeletehi im visiting some friends to invite them to the tuesday's musing...its a way to share your cooking recipee a thought Gods word..and to make friends..hope you will join..thanks if you do..blessings
ReplyDeleteA shoe last, not lass. If you find the metal stand the last goes on (upside down), you will have the last on which the shoe repairman puts the leather shoe to mend the sole.
ReplyDeleteThe other thingy is a shoe tree. When shoes were made of leather, the shoe tree was put inside the shoe to help it hold its shape. I have a friend who uses shoe trees and his favorite pair, which he wears for dancing, is 40 years old. It's not fashionable anymore to make things last (no pun intended) but one reason i love shabby and chippy people is their devotion to old items that they keep alive. Real wood, real cotton, real metal. Thank you for bringing back memories of my dad repairing my school shoes on his own last.
I love anything to do with old shoes!
ReplyDeleteI've got four shoe "thingies" that I'm turning into hooks in my son's room.
xoxo, T.
another mean for sure! I love the shoe last.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure what they were used for, but I know that is what it's called.
I like the industrial feel of it. Know you do too...that's why it spoke to you and you brought it home!
