Don't Hate Me Because They're Beautiful...

I had a really, really good day on Saturday.
First, I went to the post office to mail and Etsy sale. Then, I went to a little store where they make homemade tortillas - corn and flour.

I had decided that since I had to get out early, I'd hit some garage sales and maybe visit a few places that are not open after 5 on weekdays.

A new double bed is on my list...preferably a nice antique style one...with a pretty headboard that I can paint white.

It was triple digits hot here, so I stopped in at a drive through convenience store for a 44 oz. iced tea. When I got to the window, there was a nice, smiling young man who presented my giant tea and said,"This one's on me."

I was surprised and touched - seriously, that random act of kindness made me shed a few sweet tears as I drove away. (I was going to get cash, but since I didn't purchase anything...)

First I went into a place that keeps regular business hours - named "Hoarders" of all things.
Well, they can keep their junk along with the name. It was WAAAAY overpriced for a junk store. I walked out empty handed.

Then, a block down was another place with junk in the windows and more junk outside. I decided to investigate.

So, I walk inside, and there's junk everywhere.
The lady who owned the junk looked like a version of Ma Kettle.

Some of it was good junk, just not my style, and it wasn't cheap, either. (Think $10 for a piece of milk glass.) Then, I spied two crates full of books.

One crate had a price tag on it - $5.

They were both very well made - reinforced corners, and lovely weathered wood.

And did you see the authentic industrial stamped lettering on the sides?

Google told me Wagner is a trophy and engraving business. These may not be older than 1984, but they have the look I like!

I asked the lady if she would mind emptying them out, that I would buy them from her. She didn't take debit cards, so I told her I'd go to the convenience store a couple of blocks away to get cash while she emptied them.

When I got back, a couple I had seen at Hoarders was there, and they wanted my crates, too. I was glad the lady told them they were taken!

Then, I spotted the table they're sitting on at a garage sale - it was also $5.

I found more small goodies I will share in another post!

Industrial living room...I can hardly wait!

Now in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and silver but also of wood and clay, some for honorable use, some for dishonorable.

  5. Craving your crates - especially with the typography. I see the table dressed in a zinc finish for your new look. Maybe some gilding around its edges and the turns of the legs. Oh, wait, that's what I want to do! And who goes shopping with NO MONEY!?!
