Early Fall - Antique Wagon Display

Last year I went mum-less.
Actually, I did not buy pumpkins or mums.

We were still in a major drought, and I
hadn't bought summer flowers either.

It just didn't seem right.
It has been a long, dry spell, and I am
ready to rejoin the land of the living!

Especially since I found this amazing
antique wagon. I love it with the
pumpkins and white mums in it!

I have a confession to make, though.

These are orange pumpkins.
I painted them white last night.
Don't worry, though. The mums are real!

We don't get many white pumpkins here.
We do get orange ones, however.
And I buy those little pots of mis-tint
sample paints at Lowes for .50c each...
so it seemed like a good solution.

One more confession, since I'm coming clean here:
The pumpkin above is fake.
Here's what it looked like earlier this week:

It cost $1.50 at the thrift store.
But the bling is not my thing...
so even with a coat of white latex,
the rhinestones are turned to the back.

I kept the pumpkins orange for several days,
trying to decide whether or not to paint.
They were pretty, but I wanted a white look.

And as much as I love the oranges, yellows and purple
mums with the orange pumpkins, this year is all about
white and neutral. So out came the latex paint...

And I like it. It looks like I imagined, and the
pumpkins and mums only cost about $20.
The gourds are dried ones saved from past years.

I also bought the big rusty colander the day
I found the green wagon - $15 for the wagon,
and $5 for the colander. The watering can
planter was a gift from my sweet neighbor.
The green urn cost $2 at a thrift store.
The iron stand is decades old...and I can't
remember how much the thing cost.

I'm pretty pleased with my $42 fall display!
Oh...forgot the .50c paint. Make that $42.50.

Happy Fall, Y'all!

  4. Sweet use of treasures and the dollar store! I would have never known from the picture that that pumpkin was fake or that either of them was painted. Glad you came clean. Gives me thoughts of maybe giving pumpkins a go this year. I'm not usually much into orange or brown or red. I could however do whites and creams and such. Great inspiration!

  5. Hi Revi!
    I had a chuckle...'the blings not your thing'...he he ...
Very clever though to turn that pumpkin around.
I'm seeing more and more people painting their pumpkins. That is interesting concept to me.

Anyway-- I love your display. I love little old wagon for sure!

    enjoy, Pat
